Since 2008, I have served on the board of Stephanie Vest Foundation, which is a local non-profit that offers financial grants to families struggling with a cancer crisis. Each year we have two major fundraisers: The Pink Laundry 5K (which is always the first Sunday in October) & Pink Friday Trivia Night (which is always the last Friday in February.) Attached is a link to an article that RainKite Photography recently wrote for HerLife magazine, profiling the Foundation and their contributions to the KCMO area. HerLife Article
How it began:
The Pink Laundry 5K started as a grassroots effort to help defray costs of the Vest family's expenses during Stephanie's extended stay at the Mayo Clinic. Friends and rallied to gather resources to ensure that their household was cared for during this extended absence. Money collected from the original 5K event went towards utility bills, food, travel expenses and medical bills. These resources allowed Eric and Stephanie to deal with her severe condition, without worrying about finances. Fast-forward to the present, the Stephanie Vest Foundation was formed to continue to pay-it-forward to other local families dealing with similar cancer issues.
Why Pink Laundry?
Stephanie showed great flair for all things in life, and one of her favorite splurges was a hot pink laundry room that she decorated to celebrate the daily chore of doing laundry. Hence the name of our memorial 5K: The Pink Laundry Run/Walk. If you'd like to learn more, make a donation or apply for a grant, please visit: www.stephanievest.com.
Working together we are making a difference, every day...in Kansas City.
